About Alessi Bakeries Food Market
A full-service Tampa bakery and deli offering hand-carved Cuban sandwiches, deviled crabs, cannolis, cronuts, cookies, pies and cupcakes, plus wedding and special-occasion cakes that can be custom designed. The dining area includes a large window where patrons can watch cake decorators at work. Catering covers everything from working lunches to galas and corporate events, with online ordering available. Cake designer Melissa Maggiore, at Alessi since 2000, has created cakes for clients including George Steinbrenner, Jon Bon Jovi, Roger Waters, Meghan Trainor and Taylor Swift.
Nicolo Alessi, who came to Tampa from Italy, opened the bakery on Cherry Street in 1912, delivering Italian and Cuban bread by horse and wagon. His son John continued the trade and won numerous awards for cake decorating, and John's son Phil expanded the business into national wholesale production with a 100,000-square-foot manufacturing facility in Northwest Tampa. Fourth-generation Phil Alessi Jr. remodeled the W. Cypress Street bakery in 2011, adding menu items, a seating area and the catering department.
