About Beyond The Combs Academy & Wellness Salon
Operates as three connected businesses: a training academy, a full-service salon, and a hair and makeup staffing agency for film, television, and live productions. The Baldwin Hills/Leimert Park salon offers styling, protective care, and treatments for all hair textures, with a focus on textured hair and deeper skin tones. In-person classes and Hollywood Training Programs in hair and makeup are taught by working film and TV artists and cover on-set and trailer skills; most professional modules require licensure, while free foundation courses are open to licensed stylists and qualified makeup artists. Producers can request vetted artists, with same-week availability for many Los Angeles bookings. The organization is supported in part by the Los Angeles County Department of Arts and Culture.
Founded by Rhonda O'Neal, an Emmy-nominated, Guild Award-winning hairstylist with more than 40 years in the beauty industry and 25 years as a member of IATSE Local 706. Born in Houston, Texas, to a mother who was also a hairstylist, she opened her first salon at 21 before moving into union film and television work as a department head and key hairstylist. Her credits include Reno 911!, Disney's Eenie Meanie, Pirates of the Caribbean, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Modern Family, Avatar, and Eternals, with clients including Solange, Condoleezza Rice, Robin Thicke, and Andre Braugher. She is also the author of Beyond the Combs: A Celebrity Hairstylist's Guide to Success.
