Detour Coffeebar is a full-service mobile coffee shop serving locally roasted coffee, espresso, and hand-crafted beverages throughout the Charlotte area. It was founded by Mike, who spent more than ten years in a corporate career before deciding to pursue his coffeehouse dream. "In 2018 I started to scratch the itch I'd been ignoring," he recalls, describing how he returned to his bookstore barista roots and spent time researching and planning before finally opening the business: "we quietly opened Detour Coffeebar" in September 2019. Rather than operating from a fixed storefront, Detour runs as a mobile truck, and the business has grown well beyond its original concept, navigating "parking from office parks to neighborhoods & schools, to now events, festivals & weddings." Customers can find the truck's daily location through the Street Food Finder app or the company website, and the business also offers online ordering, e-gift cards, and catering through its "Book the Truck" service for private events. At its core, Detour is built around a former bookstore barista's passion for people, community, and coffee, with an emphasis on quality, hand-crafted drinks and genuine connection with customers rather than rapid expansion. The focus remains on specialty espresso drinks and locally roasted coffee, brought directly to where Charlotte-area residents already are, whether that is an office park, a school event, or a wedding celebration.
