Book Shop in Charlotte, NC
Red Rice Books @ Archive CLT is the brick-and-mortar presence of Charlotte's Black, woman-owned bookstore Red Rice Books, operating out of Archive CLT at 2023 Beatties Ford Road on Charlotte's west side. Founded by KG and Vanessa, the shop describes this location as blending "the classic corner store with the rich flavors and stories of the African Diaspora," pairing books with food culture in a single storefront rather than the strictly online model many independent booksellers rely on. The Archive CLT storefront carries the same core mission as the flagship Red Rice Books brand, deepening Black folks' connection to food, food systems, and food sovereignty, but expressed through an in-person, neighborhood-corner-store format. Visitors can browse curated fiction, nonfiction, poetry, cookbooks, and specialty sections on herbalism, spirituality, and vegan living, alongside "Nourishing Goods" like coffee, tea, spices, and sauces, all sold from the physical Beatties Ford Road location. This location has also served as an event venue and gathering point for the community: Red Rice Books has hosted its opening celebration here, participated as a stop on the Greater Charlotte Book Crawl, and joined community pop-ups pairing morning coffee with browsing vintage books and music. The Archive CLT setting positions Red Rice Books within a broader west Charlotte cultural hub, giving neighborhood residents a walk-in alternative to the brand's online shop while reinforcing the store's identity as a space where books, food, and Black culture intersect.
