The Giddy Goat Coffee Roasters is a laid-back coffee shop in Charlotte's Plaza Midwood neighborhood, built around house-roasted beans and handmade Argentinian empanadas made fresh in limited batches each day. The business is owned by Rhyne and Lisa Davis, with Carson Clough serving as co-founder and CEO, and from day one the team set out to prove that a genuinely sustainable coffee shop could also be a thriving one. Clough has described the founding philosophy simply: set your mind to it, put out a goal, and make the goal attainable, a mindset that shaped how the shop was built from the ground up rather than retrofitted later. That commitment to sustainability runs through daily operations. The Giddy Goat replaced single-use plastic cups, lids, and straws with compostable, biodegradable, or reusable alternatives, and eliminated plastic smoothie bottles entirely to earn certification through the Charlotte Surfrider Foundation's Ocean Friendly Restaurants program. Proceeds from bagged coffee sales are donated to the local Surfrider chapter, and the shop hosts neighborhood cleanups multiple times a year, sending volunteers out with repurposed coffee sacks to collect trash around Plaza Midwood, often rewarding participants with complimentary coffee afterward. On the menu, espresso drinks share space with lattes in flavors like matcha and lavender, alongside empanada varieties such as Caprese, Mediterranean, and Patagonia. The space includes multiple seating areas, an upstairs outdoor deck, a dog-friendly policy, and even occasional morning yoga sessions upstairs. Baristas are known for their attention to detail, and regulars describe the shop as an easy place to settle in for a coffee, a snack, or a few hours of focused work.
