Farm in Upper Marlboro, MD
Ad Astra Farms is a woman-owned, Black-Owned urban micro-farm in Upper Marlboro, Maryland, growing seasonal vegetables and herbs for neighbors across Prince George's and Charles Counties. It runs a May-to-October CSA with weekly or biweekly shares, drop sites and home delivery, and sells Saturdays at the Hollywood Farmers Market in College Park. The farm uses no-till, integrated pest management and heirloom, non-GMO seed, accepts SNAP/EBT, and runs a Mutual Aid Program for food access.
Maura "Mac" Russell was a federal defense auditor before the pandemic pushed her toward growing food for underserved neighbors. After a ten-month beginning-farmer program at Eco City Farms in Prince George's County, she launched Ad Astra Farms in 2023 on a third of an acre behind Bel Alton's old post office, sold to six CSA families, donated a tenth of the harvest, and has since leased more land and moved the farm to Upper Marlboro.
