Farm, Flower farm, Urban farm in Bowie, MD
Agape Farm is a Black-Owned, woman-owned urban flower farm in Bowie, Prince George's County, Maryland. Farmer Melanie Wright grows seasonal cut flowers, including tulips, sunflowers, zinnias, dahlias and larkspur, using regenerative practices, and sells bouquets at the Bowie Farmers Market and through Bloom Club subscriptions. The farm also grows food for the community and added a greenhouse and low tunnels to extend its season.
Melanie Wright, a granddaughter of South Carolina farmers, picked muscadines with her grandmother and grew sunflowers as a child. Gardening carried her through the pandemic as a wife, mother and teacher, and Agape Farm, named for selfless love, opened its first season in fall 2023. In 2024 it won first place in the For Farmers Movement People's Choice vote, funding a greenhouse completed in 2026.
