About AMP Beauty

AMP Beauty LA is a Los Angeles-based beauty retailer founded by three Black women, Montre Moore, Phyllicia Phillips, and Angel Lenise Pyles, who set out to close a long-standing gap in the beauty industry. Although Black women wield significant purchasing power in beauty, spending at a rate far higher than other demographic groups, the founders found that they remained underserved by elevated retail experiences and access to clean, non-toxic products, with an estimated seventy-five percent of products marketed to them containing harmful ingredients. In response, they built a curated digital marketplace carrying more than fifty brands across hair care, skincare, makeup, nails, and bath and body, with an emphasis on clean, conscious beauty for "all textures, all genders, and all shades." Montre Moore brings more than a decade of prestige beauty experience from roles at Neiman Marcus and Revolve, along with degrees from Clark Atlanta University and the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising, and she also founded the Beauty Boss Club to support beauty entrepreneurs. Angel Lenise Pyles is an award-winning creative producer and former BET correspondent with media credits including ELLE, Harper's BAZAAR, and Sony Music Entertainment, and a graduate of Clark Atlanta University and Columbia Journalism School. AMP Beauty LA has grown from an online marketplace into a multi-channel retailer, operating a flagship store in downtown Los Angeles, a location at UCLA, its own e-commerce site, and partnerships with Target.com, while continuing to spotlight BIPOC-owned and female-founded beauty brands.

The founders of AMP Beauty had a realization: why settle for boring? They launched with the conviction that business could be professional AND fun, skilled AND spirited. Starting in Los Angeles, they've attracted customers who value both quality and personality. Their story proves that authenticity and joy are competitive advantages, and that Black business culture thrives when people bring their whole selves to the work.
