Organic farm, Bed & breakfast, Farm stand in Winthrop, ME
Annabessacook Farm is a small organic farm and bed and breakfast on Lake Annabessacook in Winthrop, Maine, about ten miles west of Augusta. It grows a wide range of vegetables, fruit and herbs and sells them, along with eggs, at a seasonal roadside farm stand and to local restaurants. The farm has raised pastured sheep, pigs, chickens and goats. The owners make their own yogurt, cheese, bread, pickles and preserves. A small CSA runs from June through November with sliding-scale pricing. Guests can stay in the restored 1810 farmhouse and eat full farm breakfasts made from farm produce, and the property hosts small weddings, retreats and events. The farm also hosts community gardens and runs a fresh food bank open to anyone in need.
The farm is one of the earliest in Winthrop and centers on a restored 1810 farmhouse with frontage on Lake Annabessacook. Craig Hickman and his husband, Jop Blom, run it as an organic farm and bed and breakfast. Its CSA has run since 2009. In 2018, after Hickman was badly burned in a farm accident, more than 40 neighbors and volunteers kept the farm running while he recovered.
