About Arts Equity Collective

A nonprofit that places contracted teaching artists across disciplines into classrooms and runs trauma-informed, arts-integrated programming, open mics, and empowerment workshops aimed at unlocking marginalized voices and preserving them through authorship and publication. Programs include the Own Your Story online publishing school, a Black Book Fair supporting Black authors, the Survivor's Ball, and AEC Publications. For teens, the organization trains competitors for Ohio's Poetry Out Loud recitation contest and is partnering with FLOW (For the Love of Words) International on a 2026 creative writing and performance trip to Ghana. Schools and organizations can request programming, workshops, or special events by RFP.

The collective was founded by MoPoetry Phillips, who serves as board president and is also co-founder of Regal Rhythms Poetry and its Hit the Mic Cincy open mic. An international spoken word artist with a BA in English from Northern Kentucky University, she facilitates writing circles, empowerment workshops, summer camps, and events in schools, colleges, corporations, and jails. The board includes poet and author Demontre Lewis, paraprofessional Yasmin Payne, and vocalist Shree Phillips.
