The business began in 1894 when George C. Baesler and Herman H. Wittenbrock opened Baesler and Wittenbrock Meat Market on what is now Wabash Avenue in Terre Haute. It passed through the family from George to his son Herman, then Charles, who added a full grocery line as Baesler's IGA Market in 1960 and bought Ralph's Market in 1963, and then to fourth-generation operator Bob Baesler in 1987. Bob built a new facility on Poplar Street in 2000, expanded it in 2005, acquired Angel's Grocery Stores in Sullivan and Linton in 2012 and Springmill Bread in 2013, and completed an extensive remodel in 2015. His son Casey joined the business in 2004.
