About Battery Island Brewing Company

A veteran-owned craft brewery and taproom in historic downtown Havre de Grace, brewing a range of traditional and contemporary beer styles. The taproom also serves food and hosts events, and the owners partner with local businesses and support the home brewing movement. Recognizing veterans and service members in the Harford County community is a stated part of the brewery's mission.

The brewery grew out of a friend needing space for his brewing equipment and co-owner Kyle Hurst wanting to learn to brew; hundreds of gallons later, that turned into a business. Kyle is an Active Duty Army officer and West Point graduate who has served over 16 years, including a deployment with the 101st Airborne Division and two company commands with the 3rd Infantry Division. Co-owner Rick Colbert is a U.S. Navy veteran who served from 1993 to 2003 aboard the USS O'Bannon, and co-owner Tracey Colbert, who handles day-to-day bar operations, brings a business and human resources management background.
