About Black Brilliance on the rooftop

Black Brilliance on the Rooftop, Inc. is a Brevard County nonprofit built around a signature rooftop event series that celebrates Black culture, entrepreneurship, and community in and around Melbourne, Florida. Events are held on the rooftop of Hotel Melby in Downtown Melbourne and combine live music, a vendor marketplace for Black-owned businesses, a rooftop podcast panel, and networking under the stars, alongside cultural showcases spotlighting local Black entrepreneurs, artists, and leaders. Beyond the flagship rooftop gatherings, the organization runs a "Small Business Ecosystem" initiative, monthly workshops, business certification support, and a grant program aimed at helping Black-owned businesses in Brevard County grow. The organization was founded by Crystal Plain, a Cuban-American Air Force veteran with more than two decades of experience in government contracting and technical operations, who also runs 3rd Star Resource and Consulting Group LLC. Black Brilliance partners with allies across the community, including the Space Coast Black Chamber of Commerce, to broaden its reach and strengthen the local Black business ecosystem. Rather than functioning as a single storefront, the organization operates as a hub connecting entrepreneurs, creatives, and community leaders, with the stated mission of inspiring economic empowerment and cultural pride while creating lasting community impact in Brevard County.

Black Brilliance on the Rooftop, Inc. was founded by Crystal Plain, a Cuban-American Air Force veteran whose background in government contracting and technical operations informed the disciplined, structured approach she brought to building the organization. What began as an idea for a single rooftop celebration of Black culture and entrepreneurship in Melbourne, Florida grew into a recurring event series and, eventually, a formal nonprofit with a broader mission of economic empowerment for Black-owned businesses across Brevard County. The organization has partnered with local allies including the Space Coast Black Chamber of Commerce and other community groups to expand its Small Business Ecosystem initiative, which now includes workshops, business certification support, and a grant program for Black entrepreneurs. Held annually at the rooftop of Hotel Melby in Downtown Melbourne, the flagship Black Brilliance event has grown into a showcase for local vendors, artists, and business leaders. The organization continues to operate out of Melbourne, Florida, describing its work as building "a legacy of empowerment" for Black professionals and business owners in the region.
