About Black Myrtle Beach, Inc

Black Myrtle Beach, Inc is a nonprofit connecting people of color in the Myrtle Beach area through community connection, cultural engagement and business networking. Founded by Renee Wright in 2021 as a social media group, it earned 501(c)(3) status in 2023. The organization offers memberships, meet-ups and events, a list of Black-owned businesses and local Black history on its website.

In 2019 Renee Wright relocated from New York to Myrtle Beach and found it hard to find social circles reflecting identity and experience, a struggle shared by many transplants of color. In response, Renee founded Black Myrtle Beach in 2021 as a social media group, and by 2023 it had earned 501(c)(3) nonprofit status.
