Founder Tara Kirkland describes Custard as a dream more than 20 years in the making, driven by a longtime interest in helping women look and feel their best. The first physical store opened in Savannah in April 2008, followed by a second location in Greenville, South Carolina, in September 2012. Kirkland says the name has no glamorous backstory — it was chosen because it is evocative and matches the feeling she wanted the shops to have.
