About Dear Black Girl

Dear Black Girl is a healing-centered personal development program for Black women and women of color, and the signature program of 1 Step Up, Inc., a Jacksonville 501(c)(3). Multi-week cohorts cover self-perception, emotional wellness, forgiveness and leadership, and the Bridge Grant Initiative helps students facing barriers. Since 2020 it has graduated more than 90 women across nine cohorts in three cities.

Quiana Malone founded 1 Step Up, Inc. in Jacksonville in 2015 and launched Dear Black Girl in 2020 after seeing that Black women needed structure and community, not motivation alone. The program is built on the philosophy "Nothing about me without me." It has expanded to Atlanta and launches in Los Angeles in August 2026.
