About First Fruits Farm NC Food Ministry

First Fruits Farm is a hunger-relief ministry on more than 1,000 acres in Louisburg, North Carolina, founded by former NFL lineman Jason Brown. It operates as a subsidiary of Wisdom for Life under the banner Faith. Family. Farm. Brown was the highest-paid center in NFL history when he walked away in 2012 — leaving a $35 million contract with the St. Louis Rams because he felt called to become a farmer. He had no farming experience. He returned home to North Carolina, taught himself, found the land, and in his first season grew and harvested over 100,000 pounds of vegetables. Since then the farm has donated more than two million pounds of fresh food to families in need across eastern North Carolina, and mobilised thousands of volunteers to bring it in. The model is simple: the harvest is given away. Proceeds go towards continued education, research and mentoring in local communities. The work runs on partnership. The farm has worked with the Society of St. Andrew, NC State University and NC A&T to create opportunities for research, education and community engagement, and credits David and Allen Rose of Nashville NC, Wester Farms and Nash Produce among the many who have helped. Volunteers are welcomed year-round — with over a thousand acres, there is always something to do — through volunteer and organisation forms on the site. Brown is also an author and national keynote speaker. His book is "Don't Trust The Process", and his story has been told by CBS Evening News, NBC Nightly News, PBS, TODAY, Focus on the Family and Our State magazine.
