American restaurant in Sea Cliff, NY
An eclectic American restaurant built around a wood-fired oven and grill, with a seasonal menu that changes as local Long Island and tri-state farm ingredients come in. Pastas, doughs, pastries, dressings, sauces and condiments are made in house, and the kitchen follows a nose-to-tail, root-to-leaf approach aimed at eliminating waste. There is a cocktail bar and an oyster bar, weekend brunch, dinner service, and takeout ordering. Private events are hosted for up to 65 indoors and 35 on the covered patio, with full buyouts for up to 130, plus off-site and in-home catering with customized menus.
Executive chef Jason Potter left Flint, Michigan at 19 for the French Culinary Institute in New York and went on to cook with David Bouley, Todd English, Zak Pelaccio and the Bromberg brothers, spending over a decade with Blue Ribbon, including as corporate chef for Blue Ribbon Izakaya. Furloughed in 2020, he and his wife Tanya started a private chef and in-home catering business serving Long Island, the Hamptons, Manhattan and New Jersey. They opened Foster in their hometown of Sea Cliff in November 2022. Tanya Potter, a 2006 Cornell Hotel School graduate with prior roles at China Grill Management and wine distributor Empire Merchants, co-owns the restaurant and manages the dining room, bar and mixology program, and private events.
