About Golden Gate Saloon

The Golden Gate Saloon, part of the historic Holbrooke Hotel in Grass Valley, dates to 1852 and is recognized as the oldest continuously operating saloon west of the Mississippi River. The original building was rebuilt in fieldstone and brick after fires in 1855 and 1862, and the hotel itself was named for owner D.P. Holbrooke in 1879. It remains a working saloon and dining destination within the Gold Country landmark hotel.
