About Goldfinger Brewing Company
A microbrewery and taproom brewing only lager beer, made with European techniques including a decoction brewhouse, special wort aeration, natural carbonation, and horizontal lagering tanks. The year-round core lineup is Original, Pils, and Vienna, joined by rotating seasonals and small-batch experiments drawing on Polish, Czech, and German styles as well as American-influenced lagers such as a West Coast Pils. The taproom sits steps from the brewhouse two blocks northwest of the Fairview Metra station, with snacks, weekend food trucks, and space for private parties; beer, merch, and gift cards are also sold online and self-distributed across Chicagoland.
The Goldfinger name traces to Markus Goldfinger, who started a brewery and brewing equipment manufacturing company in 19th-century Krakow, Poland, with family operations in beer, hops, and equipment across Poland and Czechia. Owner and brewer Thomas Beckmann, a descendant of the Goldfingers, revived the family brewing tradition in Downers Grove after earning a Master Brewer's diploma through the World Brewing Academy in Chicago and Munich. The taproom opened July 31, 2020, with three beers on tap and no cans to go, and demand quickly outpaced the cautious early batch sizes.
