A working general store that doubles as a steakhouse, selling gas, chips, hamburgers, cold beer and soft drinks alongside a weekend dinner menu of hand-cut ribeye, filet, New York strip, whole-rack New Zealand lamb chops, thick-cut pork chop, and seafood including redfish, scallops, yellowfin tuna, salmon and Gulf shrimp, with homemade potato and vegetable casseroles. Dinner runs Thursday through Saturday with live music; lunch is served Tuesday through Saturday. Community seating, paper plates and paper towels for napkins are part of the experience. Southern Living named it one of the most legendary steakhouses in the South in January 2025.
The store was built in the late 1800s as a general merchandise business and served as a primary center of commerce for Learned, Mississippi, a town now home to fewer than 90 people. It has operated continuously under Gibbes family ownership since day one. Steak, lamb chops and seafood dinners were added in 2009. Chipper and Susan Gibbes, along with Chipper's mother Mary Bell Gibbes, now run the store and restaurant; their children Henry and Kirk are the fifth generation involved.
