About Honeymoon Acres

A family-operated greenhouse and nursery growing its own plants and selling them only at its New Holstein retail location off Hwy 57. Spring brings greenhouses of vegetables, herbs, perennials, and annuals plus roses, trees, shrubs, and fruits; fall brings pumpkins and hardy garden mums; winter brings poinsettias, wreaths, and Christmas trees. The retail site includes a 27,000-square-foot annual greenhouse, a 10,500-square-foot perennial house, five individual 1,800-square-foot houses for tomatoes, peppers, cool crops, herbs, and vine crops, a salesroom with pots, jams, and Jack's fertilizers, and roughly 20,000 square feet of outdoor display for lawn ornaments and nursery stock. Walkways, bathrooms, and grounds are kept level and wide for accessibility, and the business grows its own stock at separate production sites, including a cutting and seedling greenhouse called The Potting Shed.

Joe and Marci McShaw started the business in 1984 at age 21 with $5.00, tearing down old barns and using the boards to build their first 1,000-square-foot greenhouse while holding full-time jobs and farming five acres of vegetables sold Saturdays in New Holstein. Joe grew up in Pennsylvania as the youngest of 10 on a family greenhouse, vegetable, honeybee, and carpentry operation before moving to Wisconsin. Around 1990 the family chose to focus on greenhouses over the vegetable farm, and in 2002 they bought property on Ford Drive, building the current retail location largely themselves and opening in 2003. Their four children and grandchildren work in or support the business, which runs with a staff of six to ten.
