She also knew relocation firsthand. Jessica was raised in Oakland, California, and moved across the country to Durham without knowing anyone. She learned the city the slow way: walking the neighborhoods she would eventually sell, spending mornings at the Durham Farmers' Market, taking her daughter to Northgate Park, working through coffee on Ninth Street. That first-year fog, not knowing which street to live on, which school, which commute, became the problem she built a business around.
