About Island Boy Kreationz Food Truck & Catering
Island Boy Kreationz Food Truck & Catering was founded by Deon Henry, who brings Virgin Islands roots and Caribbean flavor to Charlotte, North Carolina. The business began with just a $500 investment, a tent, two tables, and a cooler. Before finding his footing in food, Henry tried other ventures during the pandemic, including t-shirt design and beaded jewelry, before discovering his calling in the kitchen. The road wasn't easy: an early trailer purchase turned into a $12,000 scam, and over the years his trucks and trailers have been stolen five times. Through it all, Henry credits faith, consistency, and word of mouth for building a business that has now served more than 100,000 plates across 18 verified service areas in North Carolina, including Charlotte, Concord, Greensboro, and Winston-Salem. The menu leans on bold Caribbean and soul food flavors, with oxtail as the standout seller alongside curry chicken, jerk shrimp bowls, salmon, beef ribs, wings, and chopped chicken, served with sides like rice and peas, yellow rice, cabbage, candied yams, mac and cheese, cornbread, and baked beans, plus homemade cakes for dessert. Notably, no pork is cooked in their kitchen. Beyond the truck's regular Tuesday-through-Friday hours at 6100 Hunter Ave and a late-night Amazon stop, the team offers food truck pull-ups, party trays, and custom catering for offices, private parties, churches, and community gatherings, with quotes based on headcount and location.
