It's a Southern Thing - Ellis Crossing is the second Durham location of this Southern comfort-food restaurant and bar, located at 1051 Yunus Road, Suite 110. Hours run Monday through Wednesday 10:30am to 9pm, Thursday and Friday 10:30am to 10pm, Saturday 10am-2pm and again 5pm-10pm, and Sunday 10am-2pm and 4pm-9pm, giving this location slightly longer weekend hours than its downtown sister restaurant. It's a Southern Thing was founded in 2018 by Pete Susca, a New Jersey native who moved South roughly twenty years earlier and grew curious about regional customs locals kept explaining away as "it's a southern thing." Over time he came to genuinely love Southern traditions - sweet tea, chicken fried steak, unhurried comfort cooking - and adopted that way of life himself, eventually naming his restaurant, now with two Durham locations, after the phrase that sparked it all. The values behind both locations are the same: a passion for great food, great fun, and great friends, with every dish prepared with the patience of a home-cooked meal so guests feel like they got a plate straight from grandma's kitchen.
