About The Refectory Cafe

The Refectory Cafe is a family-owned restaurant at 2726 Durham-Chapel Hill Boulevard, established in 2005 and currently run by owner Laura Hall. The kitchen builds its menu around scratch-made, minimally processed cooking, with accommodations for vegan, vegetarian and gluten-free diners, plus alcohol-free alternatives to wine, beer and spirits for guests who want the experience without the alcohol. Signature dishes include Chicken Verde soup, a Short Rib sandwich, halibut specials, Ricotta Gnocchi and Lemon Ricotta Pancakes, and the restaurant has built a particular reputation for its brunch service, served Sunday from 9am to 3pm alongside full weekday hours that run as late as 9pm on Friday and Saturday. Beyond the dining room, The Refectory Cafe hosts catering, private parties, and wine dinners, and offers craft cocktails and wine flights curated by the staff. That wine program has been formally recognized: Durham Magazine named it winner of Best Wine List in a Restaurant in June 2023. The restaurant has also drawn broader acclaim, ranking as the fourth-best local restaurant in North Carolina according to Southern Living in April 2023, and sitting at number one among Durham restaurants on TripAdvisor as of November 2024. It carries an OpenTable Diners' Choice distinction and has been voted for best brunch, healthiest food and best french fries in reader polls across the Triangle. Reservations and online ordering are handled through OpenTable, making it easy for regulars and first-time visitors alike to plan a visit around its award-winning brunch or dinner service.
