About Legion of Muzik Worldwide

Legion of Muzik began the way a lot of studios do: with an engineer working out of small project rooms, learning the craft one session at a time. J Manifest, the studio's founder and senior engineer, started as a freelancer in those project studios before earning a degree in Audio Engineering and Production in 2009. What grew out of that apprenticeship is the room he runs today on Gresham Lake Road in north Raleigh — a full-service recording facility built around a simple idea the studio still repeats: the caliber of your engineers and producers matters just as much as the quality of the room you work in. The facility spans roughly 2,000 square feet, laid out as one control room, two live rooms, and a vocal booth. Legion of Muzik works out of two rooms, Studio A and Studio B, each described as a state-of-the-art music and post-production space. Both are anchored by a D-Control ICON console and Pro Tools HDX, monitored through Tannoy System 215 DMT II mains, and stocked with a mix of vintage and modern outboard gear. Both rooms were designed and tuned by the late George Augspurger, a name well known to anyone who follows studio acoustics, and both are wired for picture as well as sound — a 110-inch retractable projection screen, 7.1 surround, and full HDMI routing, which lets the studio handle post-production and audio-for-video alongside music. That range is the point. The studio's own tagline is blunt about it: "We Can Record Anything." In practice that means tracking, mixing, and mastering for music clients, plus post-production audio work for projects that need surround and picture. A second line the studio keeps close — "Recording Music. Recording History." — reads less like a slogan and more like a statement of intent about the work that comes through the door. What sets a place like this apart is rarely the gear list alone; plenty of rooms own the same consoles. It's the people at the desk. Legion of Muzik runs with three engineers. J Manifest handles the senior chair. Hugg E Bear, who the studio says began his musical career at an early age, earned his own formal audio engineering degree in 2017. Rich Lindsay came up a different route, building experience through live sound for local concerts and recording solo artists and groups during school before joining the room. Between them the studio covers the full arc of a record — from the first take in the live room to the final master. For artists in the Triangle, that combination — a purpose-built, acoustically tuned facility staffed by engineers who each trained for the work — is the draw. The hours reflect how the room is used: sessions run long, and Legion of Muzik keeps the doors open from early morning into the small hours, seven days a week, for the kind of tracking and mixing dates that don't fit a nine-to-five. It is, first and last, a working recording studio in Raleigh, built by an engineer for the making of records.

Legion of Muzik grew out of founder J Manifest's early years working as a freelance engineer in small project studios, a stretch that ended with a formal degree in Audio Engineering and Production in 2009. From that foundation he built the current 2,000-square-foot facility on Gresham Lake Road in north Raleigh — one control room, two live rooms, and a vocal booth across Studios A and B, with acoustics designed and tuned by the noted studio designer George Augspurger. The studio's guiding philosophy is that the engineers and producers behind the board matter as much as the room itself, which is why it staffs three trained engineers — J Manifest, Hugg E Bear (audio engineering degree, 2017), and Rich Lindsay, who came up through live sound. The studio describes its scope simply as "We Can Record Anything," spanning music tracking, mixing, and mastering as well as post-production audio with 7.1 surround and video routing.
