About Martin's Tavern

An upscale American tavern in Georgetown serving brunch daily until 4 pm, with steak and eggs, seafood, soups, salads and signature dishes, plus a dinner menu, wines, beers, cocktails and champagne. The dining room includes named booths and the baseball-themed "Dugout Room," and the space is available for private breakfasts, meetings and holiday brunch celebrations. Gift cards, merchandise and online ordering are offered alongside table reservations.

The tavern opened in 1933 and has been locally owned by four generations of the Martin family, making it the oldest family-run restaurant in Georgetown; Wm. (Billy) A. Martin, Jr. is the fourth-generation owner. Every U.S. president from Harry S. Truman to George W. Bush has dined there, along with senators, staffers and baseball figures including Mickey Mantle, Ty Cobb and Yogi Berra. Booth #3, known as "The Proposal Booth," is where John F. Kennedy proposed to Jacqueline Bouvier on June 24, 1953.
