Morrison's Soul Food serves daily-rotating soul food plates in Chicago's Auburn Gresham area. Menus change by weekday: fried and smothered chicken, short ribs of beef, smothered pork chops, ham hocks, braised ox tails, cornish hen and dressing, fried catfish and spaghetti. Sides include mac and cheese, candied sweet potatoes and cornbread dressing. Hasana's Sweets adds banana pudding, cakes and cupcakes. Pickup, delivery and catering by the pan or by the piece are available.
Cookie and Eddie Morrison founded Morrison's Soul Food in 2002, and their daughter Sheila grew up running the business with them. The restaurant became a staple in Auburn Gresham, with lines stretching down Ashland Avenue and jobs for local youth. After losing both parents, Sheila rebuilt and rebranded the business from scratch with a new team. It is Black owned and woman led, with a full-service dine-in location planned.
