About Nix Sustainable Beef Farm

Nix Sustainable Beef Farm is a family cattle farm in Rochelle, in Alachua County near Gainesville, Florida. John 'Ronnie' Nix and his grandson Keilyn Fuller run about 50 head of cattle on 80 acres of pasture. The herd is an Angus-Senepol cross, bred for tenderness and flavor. The farm sells about 20 calves a year at local livestock markets and is working to sell more grass-fed, grain-finished beef directly to consumers. Local buyers can purchase beef at the farm for their home freezers. Nix hosts school tours, works with teachers, and plans to add agritourism.

The farm was started in 1910 by Nix's grandfather, as the Hall family farm, growing row and vegetable crops and raising cattle. Nix's uncles later took it over, and he worked with them during high school. After graduating from Kansas State, he worked for agricultural companies and utilities on energy efficiency and conservation. When his uncles retired he took over the farm, bought cattle and converted the row-crop fields to pasture. His grandson Keilyn Fuller, who grew up in Miami, plans to continue the farm.
