About Nutcracker Family Restaurant

A 1950s-style diner serving breakfast all day, lunch sandwiches, soups and salads, and dinner entrées including steaks, pasta, seafood, meatloaf, country fried steak and fried chicken with mashed potatoes. Daily breakfast specials run Tuesday through Friday mornings, and a Blue Plate Special with entrée, side and drink is offered at midday. Pies are made fresh daily and can be ordered for special events with two days' notice; Nancy Butcher's chocolate Snickers cookie pie took top prize from General Mills in 2016 and her double decker banana cake was honored in 2019. The dining room is filled with neon signs, vintage Coca-Cola advertising, a working dime jukebox, red vinyl booths and a large nutcracker collection, and an attached candy shop stocks retro sweets like candy buttons, Astro Pops and wax pop bottles.

Nancy and Steve Butcher Sr. opened the business in downtown Pataskala in 1995 as Nutcracker Sweets, a candy and dessert shop, then moved to the larger Broad Street location a couple of years later to add breakfast, lunch and dinner. Their son Steve Jr. and his wife Kim now run daily operations. The restaurant burned to the ground in January 2005, and community members helped clean, rebuild, hold fundraisers and replace the lost nutcracker collection. Three family members are veterans, and the restaurant offers free meals to veterans and active military on Veterans Day and the day after Memorial Day.
