About Party Cake Bakery
A Cuban bakery chain with roughly a dozen Miami-area locations selling cakes, pastries, breads, Cuban coffee and staples such as pastel de carne. Beyond the bakery case, it offers party platters, food by the pound, and catering for office meetings and large events, plus gift cards good at any location. Three locations were built with open kitchens so customers can watch bakers and decorators work.
Olga and Juan Montano, immigrants from Las Tunas and Pinar del Rio, Cuba, both entered baking in the 1980s—Olga as a cake decorator who learned from her grandmother Aida, Juan as a delivery driver who trained under French pastry chefs. Both rose through Publix Supermarkets bakery ranks, where they met, and after ten years left to open Party Cake Bakery on May 1, 1993, in a 1,300-square-foot shop on Miller Drive in west Miami. A second location on Coral Way followed a decade later, food by the pound was added in 2011, and open-kitchen stores in 2014. The family-owned business now employs close to 150 people, with Olga and Juan still running it.
