Restaurant in Ridgeland, SC
A mobile food operation serving what chef Matt Valentino calls elevated street food: smashburgers such as the Big!Slap, crispy and grilled chicken sandwiches, 12-inch all-beef hot dogs, hand-cut fries, tacos, BBQ and rotating weekly specials like fried grouper po'boys, pork schnitzel rolls and pumpkin caramel pretzel bread pudding. Many items are made in house using local produce, including greens from River Root Farms and the chef's own urban farm, plus freeze-dried products. Online ordering is available through the website and the Toast Takeout app. The truck also caters private parties, corporate events, block parties, weddings and neighborhood gatherings, either serving on site or dropping off food.
Chef Matt Valentino is a South Carolina native, born in Charleston and raised in Pawleys Island, who moved to Bluffton over 20 years ago and attended the Culinary Institute of Savannah. He has cooked at Palmetto Bluff, Michael Anthonys, OMBRA and McCrady's in Charleston, and opened Pearl Kitchen + Bar in Old Town Bluffton; in 2018 he started an urban farm growing produce for local restaurants. The food truck idea traces back to a toy food truck his wife gave him for Christmas in 2014, which sat by their cookbooks for years. The name came from a young dishwasher telling him "yo that food slaps."
