About Small Rain Farm

Small Rain Farm is a Black-Woman-Owned farm in Hurdle Mills, North Carolina, north of Durham, growing vegetable, herb, flower and perennial seedlings from open-pollinated, organic and BIPOC-grown seed. Nikki Pressley sells 2-inch pots and larger trays at the Eno River Farmers Market on Saturdays and the Black Farmers Market in Durham on Sundays, and welcomes greenhouse visits by appointment.

Originally from South Carolina, Nikki Pressley grew food in Los Angeles, then farmed in Winston-Salem for three years before moving to the Triangle. The farm's name comes from Ayi Kwei Armah's idea of "small rain": patient, slow work that prepares the ground for future harvests. She uses low-till methods, cover crops and compost, avoids harmful pesticides, and is building a seed library of regionally adapted varieties.
