About STACK CITY BBQ

Central Texas post-oak smoked barbecue paired with a 90s hip-hop atmosphere, serving brisket, ribs, smoked chicken, pulled pork and hot link sausage. Signature items include loaded nachos layered with a choice of meat, queso, backyard red sauce, pickles, onions and jalapenos; The McDowell, a deboned pork rib sandwich with Soul Glo sauce; and The Notorious P.I.G., smoked pork with mustard slaw. Breakfast, lunch and dinner menus are offered along with cold beer and a rewards program. Catering handles groups of 25 or more with pickup, delivery, buffet spreads, boxed lunches and food truck service for large events.

The restaurant traces a 20-year path that began with a trailer near UT during the Sugar Shack BBQ days, later expanded to four locations, and eventually contracted back to one. Along the way it was featured on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives, Man v. Food and the Travel Channel. Facing possible closure, the owner partnered with a new family of backers and rebranded under the Stack City name while keeping the same vision and voice. Pitmaster Mark Avalos learned the craft in East Austin, combining heritage smoke techniques with 90s hip-hop culture.
