Steven H. Emerson holds the CPA, CGFM, CGAP, CFE, CITP and CGMA designations and has performed more than 250 audit engagements, over 100 Single Audit engagements, and 18 tax seasons. Education and instruction is a further focus: he has taught the Association of Government Accountants' CGFM exam review program across the United States. He also reviews CAFR, budget, PAFR and SGAFR submissions for the Government Finance Officers Association award programs.

Steve Emerson spent 15 years in staff and supervisory roles leading tax and auditing engagements before opening his own consulting firm on July 1, 2010. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Management and Accounting from the University of North Alabama and previously owned and operated an outsource parts rework business for over 16 years. He promoted the Shepherd CPA Association for small accounting firms for three years before merging it with the CPAPlus Network, which he recruits for in the Birmingham area. He lives in Alabaster with his wife Tracy and their two children and serves on the board of SafeHouse of Shelby County.
