About Sweet Jones Farms

Sweet Jones Farms is a family-owned farm in the Baton Rouge area and a Louisiana Certified Farm to Table company. It sells beef from its cattle by the whole, half or quarter on a pre-order basis; the farm describes the beef as grass fed and grain finished, vacuum sealed and custom cut, with about three to six weeks of processing. It also sells whole and half lamb, wild-caught Gulf shrimp and catfish, smoked pork boudin, produce, its own Creole and seafood seasonings, and heirloom seed kits. Customers order online for shipping (free over $150), join a monthly food box membership, or buy wholesale. Education is central to the business: the farm builds raised-bed gardens for families, partners with schools and churches on community gardens, and runs a free food program for children who qualify for reduced or free school lunch.

J'Quincy Jones started Sweet Jones Farms in 2017. He was not raised in a farming family. His family's land had been sold off over time, and he found the current property through word of mouth, promising the seller a lifetime supply of eggs. Beehives were an early income source until Hurricane Ida destroyed them in 2021. He then used a $5,000 Brighter Future Fund grant from American Farmland Trust to set up raised-bed gardens for 10 families and a garden partnership with a Baton Rouge elementary school.
