About Sweet Melao LLC
Makes sugarcane honey sweeteners along with no-sugar jams and soft-baked granola cookies sweetened only with sugarcane honey. The line includes dehydrated sweetener, Moreno, Rubio and Raw liquid sweeteners, and jams in flavors such as coffee, dulce de leche and ginger, plus coconut cookies. Sugar cane stalks are sourced directly from local farmers in Colombia with traceable supply chain, and the sweetener and jam formulas were approved by the Cornell Food Venture Center. Products are sold online with wholesale ordering available.
Founded by sisters Maria Williams, a Navy veteran, and Angela Hill, a former restaurateur, known as "The Melao Sisters." The two grew up in Puerto Tejada, Colombia, where their grandparents ran a grocery store started in the early 1950s and worked the local farmers market, and where the sisters ate sugar cane from the fields as children. They formed Sweet Melao LLC in July 2021 and officially launched the brand on June 23, 2023 at the Amazon Small Business Conference in New York City with a run of beta products.
