About Sweeting Ranch

Sweeting Ranch is a small first-generation farm in Sierra Valley near Loyalton, California. According to its CAFF farm directory listing, the farm sells regeneratively grown vegetables, flowers, herbs, plants and trees, and pastured eggs from hens fed 100% organic feed. Products are sold direct to consumers and wholesale, through local grocery stores, co-ops, farmers markets and a farm stand. The farm uses non-certified organic, no-till, permaculture and holistically managed, pasture-based methods. In earlier years the ranch raised a small herd of cattle and a flock of sheep and grew grain and hay. The CAFF listing says beef and lamb have been discontinued for now and that the farm rests in winter. Updates are posted on Facebook and Instagram.

Solomon Sweeting grew up in the 1970s around small-scale urban agriculture in the San Francisco Bay Area and farming communities in Pennsylvania. He studied range-related subjects at Feather River College and then worked about ten years fighting wildfires while homesteading. By about 2010 he and his partner, Bronwyn Olsen, were leasing a 60-acre ranch near Loyalton and grazing about 60 more neighboring acres in exchange for fire control. They raised cattle, sheep and laying hens, and sold beef, lamb, eggs and vegetables on the farm and at the Loyalton farmers market.
