About The Lit. Bar

The Lit. Bar is the only independent bookstore in the Bronx, an Afro-Latina-owned bookstore and wine bar in Mott Haven opened by Bronx native Noëlle Santos in 2019. Below a signature indoor tree installation, curated fiction, Black and Latinx voices, and children's titles share the floor with a full wine bar, drawing neighbors in for author events, book clubs, and evenings that mix a glass of wine with a new read.

Noëlle Santos spent years working to bring the Bronx its first independent bookstore, a project she began pursuing in 2014. She opened The Lit. Bar in Mott Haven in 2019, pairing curated books with a wine bar so the shop could double as a gathering place, not just a place to buy one. She has described her curation as a reading list built for her own community first, with the world welcome to visit.
