A 12,500-square-foot food hall on Capitol Hill housing a cluster of independent vendors under one roof: Cameo for seasonal specialty coffee and tea, Shelter with 50 craft beer taps and two cask engines, Hi/Fi Taco from butcher Nathan Anda, Red Apron's charcuterie and burgers, Slice Joint's New York and Grandma style pizza, Linda's Mediterranean-style salads and sandwiches, AKO by Kenaki for sushi and omakase, and Show of Hands for low-alcohol cocktails and wines by the glass. Caruso's Grocery, an Italian-American red sauce restaurant from Chef Matt Adler, operates as the one standalone full-service restaurant. Shop Made In DC runs a small retail space carrying goods from more than 40 local makers, plus classes and programming. Carryout, delivery, catering, private events and gift cards are available, along with family-friendly indoor and outdoor gathering space.
The Roost was developed and is managed by Neighborhood Restaurant Group s in partnership with May Riegler, on the ground floor of Blackbird, a 167-unit residential building at Pennsylvania Ave SE and 14th Street SE. NRG is also behind ChurchKey, The Sovereign and Bluejacket, whose beer program shaped the Shelter concept. The food hall was designed to complement the independent businesses already in the Capitol Hill neighborhood near Barracks Row and Eastern Market.
