Food truck, Soul food restaurant, Restaurant in Raleigh, NC
Unforgettable Eats is Southern comfort food carrying Ethiopian spice — the combination is why it gets written about, and why it was named WRAL’s 2024 Food Truck of the Year. It runs two locations: the truck on Capital Blvd in Raleigh, open Wednesday to Sunday 6pm to midnight, and a second site at 11016 Capital Blvd in Wake Forest, open Tuesday and Wednesday 11am–8pm and Thursday to Sunday 11am–9pm. The lamb chops are the signature — served over mashed potatoes, yellow rice or candied yams, with an extra chop available on the side. Around them sit fried whiting, salmon, smothered shrimp, spicy beef tips, wings by six or ten, a shrimp po’boy, fried chicken and fried whiting sandwiches, and rice and pasta bowls. At the top of the menu are the Unforgettable Surf & Turf and the UE Extreme Plate. The soul rolls are their own section and are what regulars mention alongside the lamb: eggrolls stuffed with fried chicken, mac and cheese and candied yam, or jerk chicken, mac and cheese and collard greens, sold singly, as a combo or a four pack. Sides are proper Southern — collard greens cooked with smoked turkey neck, candied yams, five-cheese baked mac and cheese, cajun fried corn, cabbage, basmati rice and a seafood krack mac. Catering is available, and orders can be placed for pickup or delivery. Note that the prices listed here are the online-ordering prices; ordering in person at the truck is generally cheaper.
Unforgettable Eats started at home. Isaiah Tewolde had been cooking for family and friends for the love of it, and in 2019 began selling homemade dinner plates out of his house. Demand did the rest: the plates became a food truck, and the truck became one of the best-known in the Triangle. What set it apart was never a gimmick — it was the seasoning. He cooks Southern comfort food, but the Ethiopian spice in it makes the plates taste like nothing else on the circuit, and that is what people write reviews about: lamb chops over yellow rice, whiting done properly, collards cooked with smoked turkey neck, soul rolls stuffed with mac and cheese and candied yams. In 2024 WRAL named Unforgettable Eats its Food Truck of the Year. The business has since grown to two sites — the truck on Capital Blvd in Raleigh, running late into the night five days a week, and a second location in Wake Forest open through the day.
