About Advancing Black Businesses

Advancing Black Businesses Foundation (ABBF) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization based at 384 Northyards Boulevard in Atlanta, Georgia, established in 2023 to educate Black business owners and consumers on strategies for collaborative economic engagement. The foundation's mission centers on driving sustainable growth and economic equity within the Black community through education, advocacy, research, and resource sharing, and it works in close partnership with the Atlanta Black Chambers, Inc. and other Black chambers of commerce across Georgia. The foundation organizes its work around six core activities. It educates by delivering targeted training programs for Black business owners and consumers. It surveys the community to gather data on the priorities of Black business owners and shoppers. It builds infrastructure by partnering with local and statewide organizations to strengthen community capacity. It engages a growing base of Black business supporters through ongoing outreach. It conducts research, using data analysis to inform community support initiatives. And it administers feature programs, most notably the Small Business Recovery Grant, which awarded 25,000 to support Georgia businesses. Leadership of the foundation includes Markee Tate as President and Chairman, Melvin Coleman as Vice President, Cheryl Scales as Secretary, and Calvin Maddox as Treasurer, supported by a ten-member board that includes DeAnna Harris, Tomeca McPherson, Ronic West, Chris Clark, Omar Ali, Bri Harris, Sylvester Ford, Raquel Hill, and Franceska Israel Sarai. Through this combination of education, direct grant funding, and chamber partnerships, Advancing Black Businesses Foundation positions itself as an infrastructure-building organization for Black entrepreneurs in Atlanta and across Georgia, working to translate community engagement and data into concrete economic opportunity.
