About Archive CLT
Archive CLT is a Black history and culture hub on Beatties Ford Road in West Charlotte, founded by Cheryse Terry, a Charlotte native and archivist who has spent more than a decade collecting Black memorabilia. In 2022, driven by her belief that people must be the change they wish to see, Terry raised $40,000 in 40 days through grassroots fundraising to bring the space to life, turning years of personal collecting into a public gathering place built around the celebration and preservation of Black history and Black ephemera in a modern way. The business operates as a cultural space first and a cafe second. Visitors can get coffee and espresso drinks, including signature latte flavors created by local mixologists, made with locally roasted beans, while also browsing a curated retail selection of books, memorabilia, stationery, and art books tied to Black culture and history. Archive CLT hosts events and gatherings, rents out its space for parties and conferences, and offers catering, making it a flexible venue for community organizing as well as casual visits. Terry describes Archive CLT as not just a place but a movement, a tribute, and a testament to the enduring spirit of Black culture in Charlotte and beyond. That community orientation extends past the storefront: she serves on the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Workforce Development Board and is an active advocate for preserving the cultural heritage of Charlotte's West Side, positioning Archive CLT as part of a broader effort to keep Black history visible and accessible in a neighborhood undergoing rapid change. The combination of archival collecting, retail, café, and event space makes it a distinctive addition to Charlotte's Black-owned business landscape.
