About BLOC (Black Leaders Organizing Communities)

A community organizing group working to ensure a high quality of life and access to economic opportunity for Black residents of Milwaukee and Wisconsin. Its work centers on door-to-door canvassing and face-to-face conversations, voter registration and voting education, endorsements, petitions, and campaigns built around a published BLOC Agenda. Stated goals include building long-term political power and equipping Black leaders with training and resources so their concerns are represented at every level of government. The organization also runs a PAC, offers memberships, and publishes statements and reports such as "Still Not Free When They Come Home."

BLOC describes itself as a project of Tides Advocacy. Its framing points to conditions in Wisconsin, which it cites as the worst state in the country to raise an African American child and as having the nation's highest incarceration rate for Black men, as the reason for its organizing work.
