About UMOS, Inc.

A multi-state nonprofit operating in Wisconsin, Texas, Missouri, Illinois, and Minnesota, with three divisions: child development, social services, and workforce development. Programs include Migrant and Seasonal Head Start and migrant child care at more than 30 centers serving over 1,800 children under five, the National Farmworker Jobs Program, adult basic education, transitional jobs, and administration of Wisconsin Works (W-2) for the State of Wisconsin since 1997. Social services cover anti-human trafficking work, domestic violence and sexual assault support, the Latina Resource Center, agricultural worker housing, health promotions, a food pantry distributing up to 140 pounds of groceries, and the Wisconsin Home Energy Assistance Program in Milwaukee, Kenosha, and Marquette Counties. Services are delivered in a culturally and linguistically responsive way for people isolated from other help by language or cultural barriers.

UMOS was formed in 1965 by community and faith leaders responding to the unmet needs of migrant and seasonal farmworkers. It has since expanded its programs to serve people of all ethnic, racial, and linguistic backgrounds while continuing to work with agricultural workers. It is led by President and CEO José Martinez and governed by a board of directors.
