About Dee’s Kitchen

Dee's Kitchen — Sweet Treats ~ Vegan Eats — is a fully plant-based bakery serving the Raleigh area, run by owner and operator Deborah Ulmer out of an NC Department of Agriculture certified facility. Deborah graduated with honours in Baking and Pastry Arts from Johnson & Wales University in 1998 and has over twenty years of professional baking behind her. She opened Dee's Kitchen in June 2008, and in October 2015, after attending what she describes as a life-changing program, converted the whole bakery to vegan. The standards go well past leaving out the dairy. Everything is made fresh from scratch and is vegan — no dairy, eggs, honey or any other animal-derived product — mostly organic and non-GMO, made with whole grains, with no added oils and only raw or unrefined low-glycemic sugars. A good part of the range is gluten-free, and the bakery caters to allergen-free diets. The menu runs to signature brownies at $7 for a two-pack or $32 for a 9x9 tray, in triple chocolate, nutty butter, mint chocolate chip, German chocolate, turtle and raspberry truffle. Gluten-free oat bars are $4 a pack or $28 a tray, in apple cinnamon and berry with peach, pumpkin and cranberry coconut rotating by season. The Peanut Butter Cup Crispy — a fan favourite, and gluten-free — sits alongside almond oat fudge and seasonal lemon bars at $4 a pack. Cookies are $6 for a three-pack or $20 a dozen, including chocolate chip overload, snickerdoodle and the gluten-free chunky monkey. Several treats carry tree nuts, and a few seasonal items are made with alcohol icings. There is no shopfront. Deborah sells at weekend markets — Midtown Farmers Market, Western Wake Farmers Market, The Raleigh Market, Moore Square Market — plus pop-ups and festivals, with dates posted on social media at @dksweeteats. Her treats are also stocked at Juiced! Juice Bar and Purr Cup Cafe in Raleigh, Coco Bistro & Bar and Friends Cafe in Chapel Hill, and Pure Soul in Durham.
