American restaurant, Bar, Jazz club in Washington, DC
A U Street Corridor restaurant and bar serving contemporary American and Cajun-inspired dishes with live jazz nightly and a happy hour at the bar Wednesday through Sunday. The two-level space has carved mahogany tables and barstools and a full bar on each floor, with the downstairs room the more intimate setting for music. Exposed brick walls display jazz photographs by Gideon Kifle, including a print of local musician Keter Betts. The restaurant also handles private events, catering, fundraising events, online ordering and delivery, and sells gift cards and merchandise.
The restaurant ties itself to U Street's history as a hub of Black-owned businesses that drew musicians such as Billie Holiday and Louis Armstrong in the early 1900s, a jazz scene it describes as predating Harlem's. Its stated aim is to carry that spirit forward by blending 1920s nostalgia with a contemporary flair in both atmosphere and music. Ben Kibour is the chef and owner.
