MacFly Fresh is a screen printing, embroidery, and digital printing company based at 301 Camp Road, Suite 106, in Charlotte, North Carolina, built around the tagline "Everything is better fresh." The company was founded by Eric B. Ndelo, a Congolese-American entrepreneur raised in Charlotte, who launched the venture with his "Troop of Gorillas" after graduating from North Carolina State University with degrees in Digital Media Production and Electrical Engineering, combining his interests in art, design, and screen-printing into one business. MacFly Fresh Printing Co. operates as a social enterprise addressing three goals at once: economic empowerment, creative diversity, and global citizenship. On the economic side, the company was founded partly in response to a 2013 Harvard/UC Berkeley study ranking Charlotte 50th out of 50 major U.S. cities in economic mobility, and MacFly aims to counter that trend by creating accessible creative jobs locally. The company also works to increase representation of underrepresented groups in creative professions by exposing them to careers in design and printing. Globally, MacFly runs Made In Goma, an artisan marketplace connecting producers in Goma, in the Democratic Republic of Congo, with U.S. consumers at fair market rates, and the company holds annual screen-printing workshops in Goma to teach sustainable business skills to local artisans. On the services side, MacFly Fresh offers custom and in-house apparel design, embroidery, and digital printing, along with live, interactive screen-printing events for corporate team-building days, school field trips, and nonprofit programs, letting groups watch and participate in the printing process rather than just receiving a finished product. A Bring Your Own Textile option, known as BYOT, lets customers supply their own garments for custom printing.
MacFly Fresh was founded by Eric B. Ndelo, a Congolese-American entrepreneur who grew up in Charlotte, North Carolina. After earning degrees in Digital Media Production and Electrical Engineering from North Carolina State University, Ndelo and his "Troop of Gorillas" launched the apparel and screen-printing business, later expanding it into a social enterprise that also supports artisan communities in Goma, Democratic Republic of Congo, through a marketplace called Made In Goma and annual skills-training workshops.
