Cattle farm, Butcher shop, Meat processor in Prairie View, TX
My Mark 61 Cattle Co. raises grass-fed cattle in Waller County, Texas, and sells the beef under its own brand. Products include T-bones, bone-in ribeyes, short ribs, flank steak, chuck roast, sides and ground beef. Customers can buy at the company's retail meat market at its processing facility on FM 1098 in Prairie View, at Houston-area farmers markets in Atascocita, Humble, Cypress and Houston, or by local delivery with order minimums. The facility also does custom butchery of quarter, half and whole cows, sheep, pigs, goats and bison, plus processing and white-labeling for other meat brands. The company describes its customers as 'second-hand vegans' and focuses on bringing beef to food-desert communities in the Houston area.
Emory Davis began My Mark 61 in 2018 after noticing in his medical-industry work how much food affects health. The name refers to enslaved Africans in America who were not allowed to read or write and signed with their 'mark', and to his football number, 61, at Prairie View A&M. The business struggled when farmers markets closed during the 2020-2021 pandemic. Davis later acquired land in Waller County for the herd and leased a processing space in Austin County. He is a member of 100 Ranchers, the Southwest Meat Association, and the Texas & Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association.
